Tēnā koutou katoa/Hello to you all,

Matariki is a time for remembrance, celebration, and contemplation.

Whether you will be with us in person for Matariki or joining us in spirit, we invite you to share in two rituals for the Māori New Year.

These names and intentions will be shared as a projection at Powerhouse’s Matariki event on Thursday 9 July, 2026 at the Sydney Observatory. Names and details of contributors will be kept anonymous, unless express permission is given by the contributor.

Your Details

Remembering those who have passed since the stars last rose
We invite you to share the names of loved ones who have passed in the last year. If you are attending the live event, you may also hear the name of your loved one read out by artist Jamaica Moana.

Example: Ira

Example: My best friend, my confidante, I miss you every day.
Setting your intentions for the coming year
Take a moment to contemplate your year ahead. Can you share up to three intentions of how you wish to feel, think, move or speak in the next 12 months? When writing intentions or affirmations try to write in the present tense. This acts as a reminder that our intention is in progress.

Example: I speak to myself with the kindness I have for others.

Example: I choose to believe that we are all trying our best.

Example: I move my body with ease.
Nā mihi nui/Thank you very much
